If you use Blogger to publish your rants and raves, you may be thrilled to find out they can now easily implement "Read more" links on their blog's index page. In fact, for years bloggers have been implementing "Read more" jump breaks themselves through manually edited HTML....a process that scares the poop out of me!
Alas Blogger has introduced Jump Breaks! Yippeeee right! With Jump Breaks you can show just a sentence or two of your post on your blog's index page. Blogger will insert a "Read more" link to the full post page where your readers can keep reading. Marvelous! It should look something like this:
Immediately I went and tried to edit all of my posts so that I could add a jump break and clean up the appearance of my home page. Not! It seems easy enough. All you have to do is while writing your post choose a point where you would like to break off and add the read more link. Click on that wee button near t he top that looks like torn paper and viola, a break is added. All you do is continue with your post.
So I tried this a million times and not once did the Read More>>> link show up. All that I saw was the grey break line it added then my continued submission right under neath. No amount of searching for a resolution to this problem has come up with anything. This should not be an issue as I am using one of Bloggers basic templates Minima Stretch .
If some poor soul out there reads this entry, please take pitty on me and help this html-o-phobe out with this please. Just leave a comment, I don't care if I sound daft for missing something....I already know I'm daft!

Hi, saw your post on blogcatalog. Sorry I'm not much help with html. I'm still figuring out blogger. Just realized the other day I can add pages (what do you know!). I fear I'll never learn everything.
ReplyDeleteSo wish I could help you but alas, I am up to my brain cell limit with blogging and am just bumbling my way through making my posts!!
ReplyDeleteI don't really know how I got this far. I am sure one day the whole thing will blow up and I will not have a clue what I did! I am sure my blog could be much better if I knew some tips and tricks and things to spruce it up. Hope you get an answer from someone who knows what they are doing.
I saw it but I too am an HTML-aphobe. I will have to ask my bestie she is the techie of the two of us me not so much. By the way I left something for you on my blog so please come by and pick it up..

I came across your blog searching for a solution to the exact same problem. No luck yet!
ReplyDeleteJump breaks only work on your homepage and on posts not on static pages.
ReplyDeleteI too have that problem and found this blog through that. What's up with that?
